General Informtion

Location         
      Kompong Luong is a large floating community located on the north of Krakor, on Tonlé Sap Lake. Kompong Luong is an entire commune of five floating villages in the Pursat province of Cambodia.There are about 1,000 families (5,828 people)in the floating village.




How they live and their salary 



They have been here since 1979.
They do not have money to buy land. So they live in the floating village.
Salary less than 20,000 Riel or 5 US D/family/ day
Floating house price about 10,000 US D
They use solar cell for having electricity in their house. Solar cell prices 200 US D but they just pay half price because Cambodia’s People Party pays 100 US D for them.

Climate

December have a lot of fish
April-October is rainy season.
January-February is coolest about 25˚C
November-March is hot season.  
April is the hottest 40˚C.

Education

Some people who have high income will let their children study at college. When they have money enough, they will buy and move to land. School, college, and university will start about August to November and January to April.


Election

There are elections every 5 years around July to August.
There many races living in the floating village: Khmer, Vietnamese, and Chinese. However, Muslim live on the land.
Famous food is Amok.


Disease

They always get diarrhea and skin disease because of contaminated water and unclean food.
They also get a dengue fever and malaria, especially in rainy season.
They always buy medicine at drugstore. If they get seriously situations, they will go hospital.

Other problems

There are many problems in the floating village: storm, drug, bad smell water, fire. When they face with big storm, they always rope their house together. So the big storm will not make disaster at all.They have no correct waste managements. They just throw rubbish to water.

1. Pehum Benh (September): they offer food to a monk and their ancestors who already passed away.

Famous food 
 fish-Amok


      One of the major cuisine of the village is fish-amok which is also national culinary traditions in Cambodia, fish amok is a fish curry cooked in banana leaf. Each family has their own version of the recipe used for the curry. Common ingredients include coconut cream and galangal.
